PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING FIVE THINGS BEFORE ENTERING THE TUSSOCK TRAVERSE:

1. A 3.2% credit card surcharge will be added to all entry fee and merchandise transactions. This surcharge will be presented as a % being added to all transactions.

 

2. Tussock Traverse now offers entry insurance with XCover. When you register for the Tussock Traverse, consider adding XCover option to your entry. 3. We understand that your personal circumstances may change after entering and you may need to withdraw your entry, so please read the following in full prior to entering: 2025 Tussock Traverse Waiver. All entry withdrawals must be made in writing to entries@tussocktraverse.co.nz. We recommend you take out XCover entry insurance (see point 2. above) to secure your entry fee.

 

4. Instalment Payments are now available through Afterpay for all distances entered. Register as per normal and pay in 4 easy instalments with Afterpay.

5. As part of Ohakune Events Charitable Trust’s ongoing support of Project Tongariro Mahi Aroha, at the time of entering, participants can opt-out of receiving a medal and a native tree will be planted in the region instead. Entrants can also choose to make specific one off donations to Project Tongariro during the online entry process to assist with planting a tree or multiple trees.

2.00pm to 8.00pm: pre-race registration open inside the Tussock Tavern.  The Tussock Tavern can be found 12a State Highway 48, Whakapapa Village 4691 (when driving up the highway, it is on the right approx 150m prior to the Chateau Tongariro driveway).

Event Schedule – Saturday 25th January, 2025

  • 5.40am to 8.40am: pre-race registration open inside the Tussock Tavern.  The Tussock Tavern can be found 12a State Highway 48, Whakapapa Village 4691 (when driving up the highway, it is on the right approx 150m prior to the Chateau Tongariro driveway).
  • 6.30am: Sunrise in the Tongariro National Park.
  • 8.15am: Tussock Traverse 32km Run/Walk Start at Tukino Access Road
  • 9.00am: Tussock Traverse 21km Run/Walk Wave A Start at Waihohonu
  • 9.00am: Tussock Traverse 12km and 6km Runners Start outside the Chateau Tongariro
  • 9.05am: Tussock Traverse 12km and 6km Walkers Start outside the Chateau Tongariro
  • 9.45am: Tussock Traverse 21km Run/Walk Wave B Start at Waihohonu
  • 9.32am: First Tussock Traverse 6km entrant finishes
  • 10.10am: First Tussock Traverse 12km entrant finishes
  • 10.37am: First Tussock Traverse 21km entrant finishes
  • 10.45am: First Tussock Traverse 32km entrant finishes
  • 12.35pm: Course cut-off for the Tussock Traverse 6km/12km event
  • 3.45pm: Course cut-off for the Tussock Traverse 21km event
  • 5.15pm: Course cut-off for the Tussock Traverse 32km event
  • 5.30pm: Prizegiving for all Tussock Traverse events outside the Chateau Tongariro

The finish line for all events is outside the Chateau Tongariro.

COMPULSORY Pre-event Registration Information

Times and Locations

Pre-race registration for the 2025 Tussock Traverse will be inside the Tussock Tavern.  The Tussock Tavern can be found @ 12a State Highway 48, Whakapapa Village 4691 (when driving up the highway, it is on the right approx 150m prior to the Chateau Tongariro driveway).

Depending on your event option there are also specific registration opening and cut-off times so please view the webpage for your specific event option to clarify your specific registration timeline.

Registration Rules
1. You cannot collect race numbers for others.

2. You cannot transfer your race number or wristband to others after picking it up.

Registration Process

1. Your compulsory gear will need to be sighted by our event crew (gear includes clean dry shoes)
– At this point, a pink compulsory gear wristband will be placed on you.

2. Your personal ID will need to be sighted by our event crew (personal ID details must match the details we have for you in our registration system. Our event safety team needs to have the correct details of everyone we release out onto the event courses).
– At this point, your event number/transponder will be issued to you by our event crew (please don’t lose!).

Check, Clean Dry at the Tussock Traverse

Protect our Playground.  New Zealand’s lakes, rivers and streams are under threat from freshwater pests.  Pests like didymo can be sneaky little critters.  A wet shoe infected can spread pests into a river or stream.  These pests can clog out waterways, smothering fish, insect and plant life out of them and making them ugly and difficult for us to enjoy.   Pests can be microscopic at an early stage so you can’t be sure that a waterway hasn’t got a pest in it.   Almost all the freshwater pests there are in New Zealand are spread by people so what we do counts.

Your Gear and Shoes.  Please ensure that all of the gear you bring, especially your shoes, are clean and dry before you come to the event. If you have been through other freshwater in the last 72hrs please use Check Clean Dry (CCD) methods to clean. We recommend using a 5% detergent mix and soaking for one minute. Other methods can be found on www.mpi.govt.nz/check-clean-dry. All of your equipment will be checked before you register. You must bring your race day shoes to registration for check, clean, dry procedure. Clean means free of dirt, sand, & seeds.  There will be cleaning equipment for your use if needed.
